I used to think if someone were to hire the active poster, then it could motivate that poster to post a lot more and integrate into the community even more. However that's not the case most of the time.
If you were to hire an active poster, most of the time, they would try to show off their new position and that would lead to various disputes. Also, I have seen people quitting the forum after attaining the staff member position (like you have stated in your post). It is better to analyze the person first and it's better to give them a chance(like a temporary position first).
If they pass the hurdle then it's fine to upgrade them to a permanent position or else it would be for the better, to hire an ideal member for that position either internally or externally.
