Have you ever put up a countdown on your site before officially opening it? Like it's a countdown to your site opening. Do you think this could result in people showing more interest in said site? I think a countdown to opening would be fun. What do you think?

I've never used it on website before launch. I've seen it used in about two forums I've been on before they were open for members to join. The whole graphics looks good and I wouldn't mind doing it in the future. It may or may not have any effects on people's interest to join a forum unless you have promoted your forum well.

I have never used a countdown myself for a site I am getting ready to open, I have always worked on it and got it ready and then opened it.

I can see why people would use a countdown though, especially if it was a big opening of a site they were doing. It could definitely hype up the opening and get more interested if you have a countdown.

Yeah, I think it'd be a fun way to promote something new, kind of get everyone excited for something new. people also like reveals, so maybe if there's a fun reveal there, it could draw people in.

A reveal plus a countdown would definitely be interesting and would get people flocking to see it as well. If you are able to combine both of those it could be a huge success.

Many people are always interested in being involved in something new and this would be a way to draw them in.

I have never implemented this kind of feature and I do not like the sites where there is a countdown before it opens. Visitors have short attention spam, they cannot wait even 3 seconds for the site to open, and they will go elsewhere. Your bounce rate can be really high if you implement this kind of feature.

I am not sure what you mean by having a countdown. Are you talking about countdown that appears before a website opens? I have seen a few such kind of websites that have this feature. But I would not want my viewers and visitors to wait for a long time, though.

I think I may have used a countdown script to reveal something on one of my message boards once, but it wasn't the opening of the message board itself. "We are opening on X/X" seems to suffice for me.

The first time I saw that kind of countdown format used in a forum before its launch was earlier this year. It was on Forum Promotion where the forum owner advertised his forum with the countdown rolling until the day he officially launched and open it for members to join.
I feel it is actually cool to have a countdown before a platform opens if it is for a lunch but if it is not for a lunch, to casually just have a countdown that is visibly showing before you open a site is just for me... not attractive

It's a thing of excitement to be very honest with you. I liked it even though it wasn't my forum. Just to watch it tick down every day till the day it was launched was giving me one kind feeling I couldn't find the right words to express.

Whoever came up with that thought for the first time is definitely a genius!

For real that kind of concepts give someone the chills and this kind of expectancy feeling and like you said whoever came up with that concept is a real genius because not many people have that kind of idea or concerts anymore

It sounds good and something that one should try when opening a new website. I like it when I am able to see the progress and anticipate when the website will finally be open to a lot of people to start using as well.

Yes, it's like an influence poker to members who will be counting down to the day of the forum's official launch. If they have been informed about what they are to experience using the new forum, they won't stop thinking about the countdown.

Yeah, that's very correct. I have always loved the concept the very first day that I saw it being used on a particular community that was about to launch. Ever since that day, I have always appreciated seeing it whenever a new webmaster is trying to launch his own forum project because it gives a kind of intriguing experience.
