I know of various plugins and software that allow you to run it on the back end of forums, blogs, and general commerce sites.

You handle it all yourself, you are not hiring anyone out. Has anyone here ever tried something like this for any of their sites?

I've never tried it myself because I haven't needed it for any of my sites. But it is pretty useful for certain niches like hosting or shopping. The only issue is that it can be very difficult to manage. Ideally, you need someone to be online at all times otherwise it's pretty much useless.

This is true. If you don't have someone who can be online all the time or at least during high traffic areas, it kind of defeats the purpose.

Live chat support is a great thing as it strengthens the customer experience, but if you don't want to hire people for 24/7 availability, then your online forum can do that job for you. Moreover, it depends on your business type.

Yes, because live chat allows you to connect with customers and gives them the insurance needed to purchase your product for example. Consumers who use live chat are more likely to convert.

Am yet to introduce the chat box feature in my forum. Have a long way to go, to introduce live chat options.

There are many sites that do have a chat feature for this and i have used this if i am unsure of something on the site or the way in which i can place an order and therefore it can be quite helpful.

I had enabled live chat support via telegram on an ecommerce site but I did not have to use that functionality as I was able to run the site for a shott time. I received a good offer., so I sold the website.
