Global Moderator vs Select Areas

Do you give your staff members global moderator powers, or do you give them select powers in only certain areas. Do you assign a team an area, or do you allow for anyone to moderate? What about all manager roles - can they globally moderate?

What I have on my forum is a moderator Team Leader and he's the head of other regular moderators in my community. He's got more account permissions more than the regular moderators in my community. His permissions are just a few things shy the same thing with an administrator.

I have global moderators, moderators can moderate posts on all sections, most of the forums where I am staff also have global moderators, however, I have also seen forums using moderators for select areas, I thin k this would be more appropriate if you are using multiple niche forums where there is a demand for moderators for knowledge on specific areas.

I haven't really understood the concept of having moderators for selected areas in a forum. Does it mean that they can't moderate in every section in the forum or is the forum owner just looking at having some sort of division of labour strategy with how things are done with his staff members?
