I have been on forums where all registeration are put on hold to be manually approved by the administrator or the owner. I never get the reason why some forum owners do that. I know some might say it's to stop spam but that's too far for me. You can place posts on moderation to stop spam and not registeration.

What do you think?

Some people like to build a close community with genuine members, therefore, they approve registrations manually. I have nothing against them. However, my preference is for building communities that are open and a lot of people can use them. Therefore, unless there are some technical issues, accounts on my forums are automatically approved.

Well am pretty sure they have their reasons as to why they choose to run things that way. It could be that they have a particular standard they are after, hence they prefer going though it manually themselves to prevent any issues.

There are some people who make use of forums that are not interested in passing through a lot of fences before they can be able to access the community they are interested in making use of. This is why whenever they come in contact with this kind of community, they are going walk way from it.

Putting user registrations on hold for manual approval can be a valid strategy for certain forums, especially if the forum owner wants to ensure the quality of their community and prevent spam or inappropriate content right from the start. While it may seem like an additional step for users, it can help maintain a higher level of control over who joins the forum.

I believe that some people usually stick to this path when it comes to allowing members to join their community when they are very sensitive in terms of getting spammers to join their platform because there is no way a spammer can be able to breach this kind of forum security to join the platform.

Some forums are more exclusive, as in they don't let just anyone sign up. Some forums also limit the amount of users the forum can have. And some do it so that spammers can't immedietly join and spam the place. Of course there are tools you can use like adding captcha and questions for new sign-ups to weed out the bots, and the admin verification is for those who don't want to risk any spammer getting through.

Some forums also require you to post in a certain area first, like a trial period to see if you're safe for the main forum. I like doing that because it allows that users to test things out, and if they are a spammer, we catch it there and don't allow the user through.

There is a reason why forums have moderators to help and keep things going normal in the right direction which is why if there is a new member who doesn't know how to make use of the sections in the platform, the moderator can put the person through and not try to limit the person with some setup that will have to only allow the user to post in certain areas.
