I see a lot of legacy forum admins build forums trying to recapture the magic of yesteryear, from either a forum they used to run or a topic that used to be popular.

Do you think this is a good approach ?

I think you should be able to differentiate between what you like and what people like. Times have changed and people's preference and interests have changed. In the age when everyone is broadcasting videos, I do not thing bringing back the sites that were popular in the past would work
