If you have a site filter that catches swears and other offensive words, does that same filter change the word to something else? Like saying the F word turns to Fart or something dumb like that. Or do you just block out the bad words when they come in?

Those filters are not supposed to change words but what they do is highlighting the swear words and prevent the user from posting it on the website. Twitter or X.com is making use of it now. Swearing and offensive words won't be allowed to tweet.

I use the filter system on forums myself but I use it to prevent the use of words that are very offensive or that could also be homophobic, racist or even just not very nice to see on a forum.

I did not know that Twitter or X as it is known now was doing this. It is something that I do feel is a good idea but I will admit, it's not too often I see anything offensive or even swearing on the platform. I have in the past seen some so I suppose it will help keep that at bay and also prevent things such as hate happening on the platform as well.

I know there are some filter programs that let you change the word to something else. So if they do enter an offensive word, it will change it with a word in its place. There are of course some that won't let users post certain words, but I think the words mostly get filtered out.

The offensive word is still removed, it's just replaced with another word, maybe just listing the word "Expletive" in its place. Some forums added words that would replace the swear, sometimes with comedic takes to lighten the mood. So you say an offensive word, but it'll change it to a non-offensive name instead. But blocking the word out completely is a valid option too.

On my WordPress sites, I filter words for comment sections. However, when words are filtered, it doe snot change the words instead it shows asteritcs. I have not implemented this kind of content filtering on my forum sites and I would like to explore the extensions that filter words.

There are many websites that tend to use filters. I think that they may be using some kind of plugin or software in order to filter out such kind of words. However, there are still many people who use different ways in order to get over these filters. They usually use short forms and use symbols in order to make it harder for filter to prevent such kind of words.

I generally just use asterisks for the curse word. I remember the official ZetaBoards support forum or a forum that similarly used something like "Holy rusted metal Batman!" as their "after" filter.

That nice, at least it will have a way of telling people like me that are fond of while gisting with someone use insultive words that I don't mean because it was in the moment of joke and it was said from a jokes prospective, but at times you could set someone off without even knowing so it's cool actually

I have seen it very well and often on Twitter. I just had to post a swear word on Twitter now to show you how it works. They will give you option to edit or delete the post. It's a very good feature because a lot Twitter users can be nasty with their Tweets.

That is great. Having a setup that can prevent swear words to be posted on forums is very important. I won't feel comfortable being on a forum where people post a lot of swear words no matter how attached that I feel to those forums. It is more like being in a debate house.

I will have no problem being in a forum like a debate house. I know that things can get heated up in such a community. I have actually been in such forums and you can get a good deal of information from them. It's all on the forum owner and his management to stop any use of swear weird words in the forum.

Forums are meant to be a place where members come together and engage in consciously in so many discussions. Members are meant to have fun using forums, they are not going to leave social media to use forum but get abused with swearing and cursing in the forum.

Seriously, there are some people who just join forums to cause all sorts of problems. I have seen so many of them and when they are banned, they will create another account. Unless you ban their IP address from registering in the forum or put all registration in moderation, they will keep needing up your forum.
