Finding staff for your forum is harder then it sounds/looks. I have seen forums with lot's of great staff and I have seen forums with horrible staff.

In your opinion, what are some ways to find that perfect staff member for your forum?

Hiring from the community seems to be a smarter way as they've shown interest in the niche, as well as them voluntarily applying (or maybe PMing/tapping them on the shoulder?). You could basically ask for a reference for what they've done on that community.

I like to hire active members usually. But with a few forum, I would open up applications.

Getting active members that seem genuinely dedicated to your forum seems to be the logical thing to do. If this is not possible then using promotion forums to advertise a staff opening is not that bad of a way to do it. I have found very decent staff members through advertising forums so it is possible.

It is indeed harder in practice than in theory to choose a nice staff, but if you have been in this world of the internet and forums for some time, you have gone through many forums and met many users with whom you have kept in touch. for example, on the forum I have 3 super-moderators also known on the internet.

One of the best ways to find staff is by choosing from your members. Analyze things like threads-to-posts ratio, posting quality, rules-following, etc. to determine whether the user will be a great staff or not.
