One way to attract and retain members on your forum is to search for, locate, and fill in the gaps within the niche.
But not every gap is worth filling in. Some gaps exist simply because the niche isn't looking for that sort of thing.
Research your niche and understand what is missing and what the community demands the most.
Then determine how you can create the demanded thing and integrate it into your forum.
Once you do that, getting more members and keeping them around shouldn't be an issue.
