I sometimes get confused with all the web lingo. With domain names, webhosting, forum software, and more, it's hard to keep track of what's what. So could someone clear the air and define web hosting for me? I'm 99% sure I know what it is, but just want to make sure! Thanks!

A Web Hosting Provider is someone who owns a computer (or pays someone who owns a computer) also called a server and gives it to you for a certain amount of money that depends on the specifications of the computer. The most popular kind of hosting is shared hosting where multiple users are on one computers; then there's dedicated hosting where you get one full computer.

Dedicated hosting is usually much more expensive than shared hosting and is only for big websites.

Well I think web hosting is basically a platform or service that allows your website to be accessible on the internet. Web hosting services provide space on the servers for their clients.

Domains are the addresses, hosting makes these domains publicly available. A website is built using content management system, for example this forum is built on Xenforo.
