Does anyone have experience using a WordPress forum plugin?

The charity I work for runs its website on WordPress, and has a forum that it runs alongside it that uses a WordPress plugin to operate. As I don't operate the forum side of things, I'm struggling to remember the name of the plugin, but I can say that it works very well for our pretty niche needs, and apart from being a bit difficult to find certain customisation/plugins for (which means we have to pay our ad-hoc web developer to make them), we don't have any real issues with it.

I'm wondering if anyone here at AJ has experience using any plugins that offer forums through WordPress, if so what are your favourite/recommended plugins and why?

The first forum I ever created was built on Wordpress, that was in 2017. I used Asgaros. It is free plugin. My forum was mainly a part of multi author blog and was created for my blog authors to share ideas. Since it was being used by a handful of people, I never have had any issue. In 2019, I created my first forum for public participation and it was also build on wordpress and I used wpforo plugin. I was running the forum until 2021, and then sold it to another person. I think wpforo is really great.
