Ever purchase a site you liked after it expired?

Has there ever been a time where you saw a favorite site of yours close down, and you decided to purchase up the domain once it expired? I was thinking about doing exactly this recently, as a site I used to frequent closed down a while ago and the domain became available. But I would feel weird buying it and reviving it. Has anyone here done it and brought that site back to fruition?

I have never done that but I am looking to buy back my website that I sold a long time ago, I frequently check the site to see if it has expired. The site is not updated for 3 years but the site is like and owner is regularly renewing the domain and hosting.
