Have you dipped in your savings before? Maybe you needed to buy food that week, or needed medicine, or you had an emergency and just needed the money. I try not to dip into my savings, but sometimes that's easier said than done. I've dipped in my savings a lot to survive the week. How often do you dip into your savings when in need? Or do you try not to take anything from your savings?

Yes. My wife and I recently had to spend $10k helping our cat. He had to go to the ER and get a bunch of tests done and now sees a specialist every few months to manage his condition. He is on medication as well. It came out of our down payment funds for a house but the market is no good anyways so we still have time to save it again.

Well, I frequently end up using my savings. In the months I do not earn enough to pay my bills, including loan repayment, I will have to use my savings. However, when I make good amount of money, I also save as much money as I could.

It mostly happens during emergency times like once I had to urgently be at home due to a medical emergency of my dad, so I had to book flight immediately and go which charged a lot! Usually if I have to go home, I book flights 3-4 months in advance (I go for festivals).

I usually end up spending a lot when I have to offer treats and when I have to buy expensive food. I also end up spending money when I need to get my motorcycle fixed by the mechanic. This is why my expenses are quite high and hard to deal with.

Why not find alternative means to these expenses? Maybe get a bicycle for your short trips as that will reduce the burden that comes with spending a lot on your motorcycle. If I were to be in your shoes, I will find a way to ensure that I get those things sorted out as soon as possible.

Fortunately, I live in a place which is quite closer to a market. So, when it comes to buying basic things, I can always walk my way to the market. However, certain times, I may need to use the motorcycle in many cases. In that case, I have to bear expenses related to fuel.

You can buy the things that takes you to a far distance in bulk. Just find out ways to always save up and buy them in bulk. It will help you save the cost of going such a distance every week or biweekly as the case maybe. Cutting down cost of living takes planning and you should work on that.
