Ever been through a natural disaster?

Have you ever been through a natural disaster like a tornado, hurricane, tsunami, etc. I have only ever been in blizzards and hard rain falls. Other than that, never dealt with any major natural disaster. What about you? Ever been in a natural disaster? What was it like?

Not really. I think it's because my country is landlocked and not near the waters. Honestly, I consider it a good thing. Even throughout our history, we have never recorded any natural disasters.

That's good. Where do you live if you don't mind me asking? What type of weather do you deal with? I live in Michigan, so we're all around bodies of water, but we only ever get thunderstorms, tons of snow, and maybe a tornado every 10-20 years. It's pretty tame here when it comes to the weather.

I'm sorry to hear that. We got a lot of snow this year and got a big warmup out of nowhere that caused some flooding, but it thankfully wasn't major. Still was annoying though.

Flooding is something that's very common where I stay. I live in the island of my state in Lagos, Nigeria. When it rains for days consistently, we get flood.

There was a time when it got too much that the sea water entered my living room. It was a horrible experience.

Hmmmm. Thats something that have not experienced before and frankly it is something I really hope I don't experience because it can be very sudden even with all this technology available to monitor it still it cannot be completely forecasted.

Technology will not actually stop natural disasters from happening once it's due for it but what is going to do is being able to forecast that is going to happen so that people will make preparation and take precaution in a way that they are not going to be affected in a very drastic way whenever it happens.

I've only watched tornado, hurricane and tsunami happen on news live. They are very dangerous and destructive. I'm grateful not to have lived through any of them. It's like earthquakes too. The last one which happened in Turkey killed a lot of people. Christian Atsu, a Ghanaian professional football was among those who was killed in the last earthquake in Istanbul.

Earthquake are too much to be very honest. I wished there's nothing like that. Imagine having people getting buried alive when that occurs? It's so frightening and the pain of dying when you're out of oxygen being buried under the rubble is worst. I can't imagine being through such.

There are some parts in my country where they have experienced flooding. I followed the news on TV and can only imagine what they passed through during those periods. Personally, I have not had any experience with a natural disaster where I stay.

Flooding is a very common thing in my country. Once it rains for hours, there are so many places that's going to be flooded. The part where I'm living right now is island and we get lots of flood every now and then. Once the sea level rises, we are having water all over the places.

Could it be as a result of poor drainage or just what it is made to be? I am always thinking that it is as a result of the water not finding natural lanes to flow, and it has to pass through places where people are living.

It's mainly because of the location in question. It's swampy area, there's no amount of drainage system that's going to make it stop from being flooded when it rains too much. We are surrounded by water all through, so that makes it easier to have floods.

May they soul rest in peace. It's always a tough one to lose your loved ones in a natural disaster. Some of their bodies are never found which can be very heartbreaking. I'm very happy that we don't get earthquakes here because if we did, it's going to be very catastrophic.

I have never experience any of this natural disaster in my whole life. I can't imagine what I do first, if such happen. The maximum that ever happened is serious rainfall that causes little flood. But wasn't that disastrous cause it affected on 0.5% of house around.

There are some part of my country where those who are living there have experienced natural disasters but the common one that is usually happening in my state is flooding. This is because of the water disposition in where we are living in. We are living in an island where there are so many water bodies.

I have experienced earthquakes a couple of times but have never been into major earthquakes. About 8 years ago, there was a huge earthquake and my family was trapped in the earthquake zone, however, no one in my family was seriously injured and there was no damage to our property despite the fact that the earthquake was 7.2 Magnitude.

Earthquake is a very dangerous natural disaster and it's something I would hope never to experience in my life. It is just that my country is blessed that we hardly experience any kind of earthquake.

Since I've been alive, I've never heard about any kind of earthquake happening in anywhere in my country. The only kind of natural disasters that we normally have is flooding.
