Elite/Premium Memberships

How often do you give out elite/premium status? Once people earn Elite, do they keep it for the life of the forum or do you eventually remove them? What perks do you often give the 'elite'?

Is it a purchasable thing on your forum, or is it something once they've done x y and z they earn? Tell us more!

Most forums that gives their members an elite/premium status usually have them purchase it. It's the logical think to do in my opinion. Although, there's another way some forum owners allow their members to get such statues. It can be either from winning Member of the Month Award or winning a contest. The statues gives the user access to sub forums that are not available for regular members and also mature board if the forum have one.

I think picking and choosing who can be an elite/premium member is definitely going to come across as a biased decision to other members. They'll think favoritism is at play when others may very well deserve the same perks that another member has received.

I don't have such a user group on my board and I don't think it's too necessary to have one on a resource board anyway.

I could at least see "Contributor" being a good team for a resource forum. People who contribute graphics, coding, etc. I know yours is ran a little differently though - but I could see that at least on a general resource board.
