Do you use a Donate button on your blog or forum?

Just recently, I was on a very popular blog and saw a Donate button in the side column. The Site owner listed how much money had already been collected for the month. It seemed like a good way to possibly monetize a blog or forum, especially one that has many loyal readers. What are your thoughts on using a Donate button to help meet the site's expenses?

I used them on my forum in the past but I haven't made a lot of money with them. Maybe over the course of the past couple years I have made $100 on donations which I find to be very small.

I was part of a huge forum in the past with a donation bar. They needed $2000 monthly for hosting and every month that thing got filled. I can't believe how much the members liked the site to pay for the sites hosting every single month!

Unless you're offering a free service, I guess its not a good idea to put a donate button on your website. I have used found it was very good on one of my websites. My website was a youtube downloader.

The thing with the Donate button is pretty complicated...You have to offer something free and really good and have loads of traffic. Only by this your visitors might feel that they need to repay you.
