I think the downsizing that occured in most Giant tech companies is probably because they feel some roles are not actually important are they are not really contributing anything to the company.

Every employee of the company has his or her own responsibility to fulfil , a company don't just employ an individual without reason , and when they think you are not working according to plan , they get rid of you .
