Do you think getting sponsered, or private advertisers can be bad?

If you own a young forum or a blog, do you think private advertisers or sponsership can sometimes be negative for the blog or forum? I've seen a forum owner go a little overboard promoting a certain ad network....

In my opinion, its better not to put more than 2 advertisements on a page for a young website.
Let it be private ads or sponsorships or ads from CPC networks etc. Visitors come to your website to see the content not the ads. And if you're using private ads/sponsorships, you have to carefully choose while selecting ads to display. If the ad you chose offer a better service compared to you and is of the same niche, that could end up potentially bad for your websites. Its not good if the ads have nothing to do with your websites' niche either.

I hate going onto a forum that only has 50 posts and there being 4 different ad spots on the homepage. It drives me off and I end up thinking that the site is out for money and that only. On Respawn Gamers I only have 2 advertisements. The backlinks and an ad spot
