Do you negotiate staff pay contract with your staff?

Forum staff can either be paid staff or those who are working voluntarily. Those who are working voluntarily don't get any payment for their job but If your forum staffs are paid, do you negotiate pay contract with them and have an agreement or do you just offer them a take or leave it deal?

I've never offered paid staff positions on my forum seeing as the forum generated no revenue and was more of a hobby for those that took interest in it. If I were to pay staff, I would probably have a monthly payment I would give them or just a one-time lump sum I would give them.

If my community was generating enough of an income, I would, at the very least, offer a staff-only giveaway of steam/xbox/etc gift cards. That way, it wouldn't cost a ton but it would still support the staff.

I've never offered a payment for staff as it was merely a hobby for me and I was not making money either because I was on forums that ad revenue didn't come to me. If a forum was doing well enough and supplied money to not only keep the forum afloat, but then also be able to pay staff members I think I would. A contract would be semi-smart to do - but a written agreement can go a long ways so it doesn't necessarily have to be an official contract. It was more so be better for the person seeking payment to have a contract.

Yea, I'd do a mini staff-only giveaway and currently it'd be a 50/50 chance between the two I have right now. I don't have a credit system on my site/forum, but I could offer some paid sub perks for free as well.

I never offered a paid position on any of my communities. I usually run forums as a hobby, so I don't generate any revenue from them and therefore couldn't really afford to pay staff. If I had the money, I wouldn't have a contract but I would expect my staff to stay active and their pay would be based on their job performance.

I'm in one gaming community where the owner sets up his community like that. In fact, it's something that's even available for his members to take part in by cashing out their forum points with so many kinds of gift cards etc.

I'd love to do that, but need to save up for ... quite a while, before I can renew XF and get the dragon credits addon.
