Do you need a license to sell certain things in your country?

When selling anything in your country, do you ever need a license to sell that item? I think for the majority of items you wouldn't need a license. I'm sure some would require permits to sell though, just depends on what it is. If you sell anything in your country, are there any requirements for having a license or permit of any kind? Or any other verification?

In our country, all businesses need a license, even when you are selling on the street. However, most of the time rules for street vendors are overlooked. You also need license for selling online, and they are now drafting laws that require a business license even to sell old stuff on social sites.
