I know a lot of people use paid services because it is less risky and you can rely on them for a number of things, including backups but in the long run if you know what you are doing, running and maintaining your own server is not only cheaper but more secure. Do you host your domains on your own private server?

I do plan to do that someday.
It's not so easy and we need to setup firewalls, security protocols and many more. I usually go with trusted big companies, to do that job for me. I have been using GoDaddy but I will probably change my hosting to Bluehost, pretty soon.

Still, having our own server is really good. We could control the uptime and access issues, quite easily.

It is cheaper on the long run to pay to a hosting company to do it, even though they hold lots of data, if you are into something that needs more security you can do your own hosting and invest more into but if not, go for a hosting company.

This is a nice idea but I have never even thought of doing such. The stress that would come with you managing it and even the financial costs would scare me away.

Personally I use paid services. Starting up a private host for your websites can be a bit expensive on the long-run, except if yoir website has grown to the point that it can generate enough revenue to coverup the costs

Yes, I host my CV/Portfolio Website on my own sever, same as my files and anything i need to reach often , and lastly i used to host some servers and rent them to gameservers

I don't own my own server, I was going to but I gave up. I prefer to pay per month for hosting and quality :)

I am hosting my website on a shared server. I have a small website that barely gets 300 visitors per day in average and there is no necessity to choose VPS or even Dedicated Servers. However, I do have plans to upgrade hosting once my website starts generating a lot of visitors.

I have over a dozen websites hosted on shared server and I have been doing this since 2015. my websites are small, they don't get a large traffic, therefore, I have never considered using private servers.

I do not make use of any domain or website hosting service but I make use of a website builder like WordPress to host my website because I feel that they are hosting service is quite reliable and trustworthy.

I want to host my website on VPS, however, I have never considered shifting to VPS from shared because my websites are small websites with low traffic
