Do You Follow People on Twitter, to gets Follows Back?

Do you follow people on Twitter so that your own Followers count increase when alot of them Fpllow you back? What do you think of this method of getting Followers on Twitter?

I don't really see Twitter as something helpful for small business, forums, or blogs so my opinion on this matter might be very very biased.

I think it's inherently stupid to do this. Getting a bunch of followers doesn't really matter. What matters is getting a following that is active and engaging. Why would you want a large following that won't click your links?

This really correlates to all social media if you think about it. Follow for follow is dumb unless its for fun ("Look at my account! I have so many followers!" said someone's annoying braggy friend.) or a personal account. To give a real life example, I follow my friends, co workers, and family in hopes they'll follow me back to a.) get a bigger follower number so my friends and family think I have a large circle and b.) so I can follow my circle's lives.

I agree. This sort of reminds me of paid surfing. In other words, people are not visiting cause they like it, but rather to get traffic. However, though, that's not saying people cannot like your site.
