Some forum owners don't allow posting of links in their community. This is because some people use the opportunity to post advertisement and probably spam the forum. If you are going to post any link, they will have to approve it.

As a forum owner, do you allow posting of links in your forum?

Maybe in a signature, but only allowed one link and it can't be a nefarious one. Sometimes I will let people advertise something, but they need to ask my permission before I allow it. I don't allow posting just any links either. It has to be the direct link, no link shortener, and they need to ask my permission first.

Most of the time I don't allow it. But I do allow the one link in the signature and most people who do it aren't breaking any rules. But I do keep a close eye on them.

I strictly forbid using links on forum topics and posts. If you allow members to post links, they will start abusing this rule and they will gon on a spree to post low quality links, phishing links, and scam links. I allow posting links on signature as well as profile, however, I have rules for what can be used and what cannot be used.I do not want any member to post suspicious links.

It is actually very good that you are taking the security and protection of every member on your community very seriously because if you don't do this, a lot of people are going to take advantage of the freedom they get when it comes to posting links and post all manner of rubbish in your forum.

If you want your community to make a safe platform, you should have clear guidelines on what kind of links can be shared or what cannot be shared. It is understandable that some members want to promote affiliate links, however, the communities should have specific sections where affiliate links can be shared. I think forum owners can also make some money by charging fees for links on certain sections or even signatures.

Actually I think it depends on the kind of link to which you allowed members to post but particular I think it's not a bad idea because it might lead to the abuse of rules and regulations of the forum.

This approach helps maintain the integrity of the forum and ensures that members are engaging in meaningful discussions rather than using the platform solely for promotional purposes. It also allows moderators to monitor and control the content being shared, reducing the risk of malicious links or harmful websites being circulated.

Been able to charge money for this kind of situation where you're going to allow the posting of links on your forum is something that is very interesting because some people even charge for making use of their forum signatures to advertise for their clients on forums.

I have not done that but I see some forum owners have fees attached with posting links on different sections of the forum. I think this is a good way to monetize your community, however, in order to do that you need a forum with a lot of users and a lot of traffic. I think the owners should still be careful about what kind of links to be allowed.

Yes, I completely agree with you that forum owners should still be careful about the kind of links that they allowed to be posted on their community because some of them are capable of landing their platform into serious problems that will cripple the growth of the website.

They manually approve the ads not because spam the community but for example the community has a package so, for example, Sticky Thread for 5 $ a month containing your advertisement or 1.5 $ banner advertisements rotate per week so what will gain community or signature set up for 1.5 $ a month if everyone places an ad for free so he will close the website and move on?

I am very big on security and that is why I do not allow anybody to put any kind of thing in my forum. I am only going to allow you to put one link which is on your bio and this is to websites that I know are not a scam like the social media network or medium.

As a forum owner, you shouldn't allow users to post links because most of them create links to spam and scam people. Though not all of them have such intention, and not everybody has good heart.

Having the ability to post links on a forum allows the members to have a flexible way to pass across their message by including relevant links to their post.

I actually think that forum owners that disallow links are simply afraid of visitors leaving their forums through those links.

This is why some of them are very sceptical when it comes to allowing their members to post any kind of links that they are interested in posting on the platform because there is always a security risk of posting links that is going to cause a very big problem for the community.

And if you understand how very easy it is for somebody to be scammed then you will have no option than to understand with them. Online scamming is something that is becoming very worrisome and is making people not to express themselves in forum as they will want to.

As a general chat forum with promotion options available on the forum, I do allow the posting of links on my forum but we are always keeping an eye out for those who try to abuse the system.

We allow members to have one link in their signature and user upgrades that are purchased depending on the tier will increase the amount of links they can have in their signature up to three.

I am all for supporting others and I like to be able to offer the option to all members to be able to post their links and advertise their projects.

For a new forum, it shouldn't be allowed for any member to advertise any other website's link on your forum. Even in signatures. Once your forum is old enough and has built a strong foundation of members and content, you can allow to let them advertise using their signature and also in a particular section created for the same purpose.

Some forum owners set permissions for new members account not to be able to post links in any section on the forum until their account reaches a certain level. By doing this, they will know the member have been in the forum for a long time and have contributed well in the forum before they can post links.
