So I haven't really used a VPN myself, I want to, but I am always worried it will interrupt performance or I will be kicked off certain sites. But, do VPNs really help when it comes to possibly hijacks or scammers taking aim at you? What can a VPN do and not do?

Some earning sites will ban your account if you use a VPN to browse their sites. You should use a VPN on public WIFI before making online transactions as VPNs encrypt your data. If you use a free VPN your internet speed may drop significantly, you can avoid that by using a paid VPN. Only a VPN can't save you from hackers and scammers as it only encrypts the data. You can be more secure by gaining awareness about common security threats.

Some sites that I use are blocked in my region, therefore I use VPNs. I mostly use free VPNs and never paid for premium service. Since I can easily access the sites that are blocked in my region, I think VPNs are good for hiding your identity. However, the only fear I have is the VPNs might have access to my private data.
