There is no much confusion between a shareholder and the stakeholder. Like the name suggests, a shareholder own part of the business like stocks and so many others. He has his investment in the business. A stakeholder on the other hand is very much interested in the performance of the business like someone have stated.

Stakeholders to me from research are people who regulate or take decision of business of a company while the shareholders are the people who invest into the company

The stakeholders are the major decision taker of the business. The shareholder owns part of the business but they are not necessarily the decision taker like the stakeholders.

There is not much difference between the two but a stakeholder buys shares with the interest of the company at heart on a long-term. While a shareholder only buy shares in the company, and a shareholder is often regarded as a customer to the company because there's no active contribution.

In business terms, many people still misunderstand the words Stakeholder and Shareholder. At first glance it looks the same but if we examine there will be many differences, both regarding functions and authority, differences in the influence on regulations and company decisions. Can you explain to me the difference between Stakeholder and Shareholder?
A shareholder can be an individual, company, or institution that owns at least one share of a company and therefore has a financial interest in its profitability. For example, a shareholder might be an individual investor who is hoping the stock price will increase because it is part of their retirement portfolio.

Stakeholders can be:
  • Owners and shareholders
  • Employees of the company
  • Bondholders who own company-issued debt
  • Customers who may rely on the company to provide a particular good or service
  • Suppliers and vendors who may rely on the company to provide a consistent revenue stream

A shareholder is a someone who have a share in a company. Some companies sell share to interested people for many reasons. A person may buy 10 percent of a business. Such will little say in the running of the business. A stakeholder on other hand is a someone who the business directors and managers held in high regards. Their role is more advisory than decision making. However, a lot of companies can't make any decision without their stakeholders approval.

The overall thing is that the both of them are going to benefit from outcomes that are affecting the company. The shareholder is somebody who owns a particular percentage of the company while a stakeholder is somebody who does not have chairs but can be able to make money regardless.
One of the thig about these category of persons is that they are actually persons of interest in the running and operational flow of the organisation, they will both share from the profit of the organisation, but the stakeholder will have more.

A stakeholder is interested in the performance of a firm for reasons other than stock performance or appreciation, whereas a shareholder owns shares of a public company.
These factors frequently indicate that the stakeholder has a larger desire for the business to prosper in the long run.

Stake holders are mostly the people that pool their resources together to start a particular project while shareholders are the people that buy share from the companies in order to be a temporary owner of the company
Stakeholders are the main investors in the organisation, they are the majority share holders, and some special prefrence are reserve for them, while a shareholders are part owners but have some limited control.

That is true about the two category, because as a stakeholder they are like the ones that will determine how the organisation will be structured and run, they are the ones to bring the major finance for the business.

The distinguishing factor between a shareholder and a stakeholder is that the former are proprietors of a company's stock, whereas the latter are people or organizations with an interest in the company's business but no ownership position in it.

Being a stakeholder and a shareholder is almost the same thing but they have slight differences a stakeholder is someone that has an interest in the company why is shareholder has invested money in the company.
