I have yet to hear about this. I'm not big on facebook, but could you explain what this is, and why people should download it instead of simply going to facebook.com?

Facebook home is a launcher dedicated for facebook users. I haven't tried it as I rarely use facebook for my personal stuffs. So I don't think its useful for me!

Also I think even the hardcore facebook users don't like the launcher. See the Google play rating for the launcher, its just 2/5

Your lockscreen, and homescreen is basically switched up. You and your friends pictures become the background, you get facebook notifications on screen (that don't interuppt) and stuff like that. I have yet to use it, because part of me is anti-facebook.
