Creating minus one using MIDI software

I have learned creating accompaniment with the use of the MIDI software. Unlike real musicians who have their musical instrument connected to the computer, what I use is that software in creating the notes with my choice of musical instrument. Now this question - is that MIDI music competitive when it comes to quality? To be honest, I am not really good with music and I can consider myself tone deaf.
