I can understand why someone that isn't very tech-savy would use Cloudflare. But at the end of the day, I think it's really up to people to make sure that their website is optimized and secure. As for the CDN, you can replicate the security by setting up another server yourself. The CDN isn't actually very new. It's been in practice by private website owners for a while. As for the optimizer, it really takes away the experience of learning how to optimize the website yourself.

Additionally, what happens when we have more companies trying to replicate CloudFlare? One can be a scam and security threat? This is why I wouldn't suggest Cloudflare.
 
CloudFlare is a free service and does a hell of a lot to supercharge your site and have it better protected. For starters, you replace your nameservers with with the ones that CloudFlare gives you so your details can be kept anonymous, you have to do this in order for the service to work.
