There is a new term these days named "Cloud Hosting". And they offer dedicated application instance on the server for the same. For example, lets say you have the WordPress website. Then they make the cloud plan for it named WordPress cloud hosting. And like this they do it for many tech based stacks. And the hosting is a bit expensive than the self managed VPS plans.

Have you ever try any form of cloud hosting?

I honestly just stay away from cloud hosting, Its all the same imo. Those companies that state, Wordpress Hosting or WooCommerce hosting on the same page like theirs a difference?? Its all a marketing scheme.

Cloud hosting isn't the same, It's far better and performance than classic shared hosting. With the old classic shared hosting all your files and resources are in the same drive on the same server box with other 3 to 4 users sharing the same system. Whereas Cloud hosting is spread out on 5 or maybe 10 servers.

I used shared hosting for 3 years, then moved to cloud and noticed the performance and the speed is great. NEver gone back and stayed with cloud. And yes you do pay more for cloud-based. But then again the future of hosting is changing and soon enough cloud is your option. But Wordpress doesn't take much and depends on what company you go with also.

Well, there would have to be something majorly better about it - to be all the buzz. Anyway, how would it compare to a VPS? Does it make a VPS or dedicated server seem pointless or too expensive?

I wouldn't say pointless at all, I mean it's far better in a performance that gives you more options and control and perfect for sites that are far bigger with 10K or more traffic a month.

And yes it cost more, if not double. It's hard to get enough earnings to say right we have enough cash to move.

Technically all hosting is done on the cloud, since its not a physical device with you, but you may be referring to services like AWS and Google Cloud platform?

These are great for more modern day apps running Node, Golang, React etc

That concept of Cloud hosting is good.
Pay for what you use. You don't see that in other hosting options and most of the time, we don't use all the resources allocated for our websites. Still, as this is still new, I am not sure whether I would want to opt for it someday.

I don't know anyone personally, who uses cloud hosting. I might switch to it someday, but just not now.

I have never used cloud hosting and I don't think I will ever use cloud hosting service. Cloud hosting is very expensive service. My websites are small, they do not deal with sensitive information, therefore, I do not need cloud hosting.

This is actually the first time that I am hearing the term cloud hosting for a website and from your description I would never go for this because I am already content with my WordPress hosting service for my website.
