Who here has ever thought about changing the name of their forum or website? The decision to change the name of a website or forum can be a hard one, but sometimes it's necessary to keep up with the times and make a fresh start.

One of the main reasons to change the name of your website or forum is to rebrand your online identity. Over time, your business or forum's focus may shift, and a name change can help you reflect that change. Rebranding can also help to attract new visitors and followers who may have been turned off by your old name.

Changing your website or forum's name can also be done to improve its search engine optimization. A more relevant and descriptive name can help search engines better understand what your website or forum is about and rank it higher in search results.

I haven't changed the name of a forum for a while but I remember when I first started my general chat forum back in 2009. I first called it Share Central and had it left like that for a while but I felt that the name Share Central didn't really fit with the niche of the site so I sat and thought about it and changed it eventually to Chat Addicts which I felt was more fitting and I felt it would be a more memorable URL as well and it has been that name ever since.

I think the closest I've ever gotten to changing my board's name was combing the original board with a new board. The original board was known as InvisionFree Archive which was a massive list of all the codes and skins posted on the official support board, but I combined it with what became known as Big Boards, a forum that contained all of those links and became your everyday resource board with resources, services, and general discussions.

I've changed my boards name once, back in 2008. When we started it was called Elite Gamers Forum, and two years later I felt the name was tacky and made the board sound full of itself, so asked the community to discuss ideas for a new name. Since we had adopted a space aesthetic in most of our themes (for whatever reason), we ended up settling on Universal Gaming since it encompassed the idea that we discuss any and all games, with any and everyone, and a universe is an expansive area in space as well.

Yeah, I've done that once... it was originally known as 'Imperial Forum'. There wasn't much logic behind it: one of the members suggested it, and I thought it sounded cool, so I just kind of went with it :p .

Later on, it was decided that that name sounded too uptight, and we switched to 'The Coffee House' instead :) .

Haven't changed any of my names... but they are available on additional domain names. My current site hits on the primary domain, but for SEO purposes, it also responds on dso.photos, which is a customized TLD utilizing phrase (DSO - Deep Sky Objects) with a significant TLD extension for that type that is frequently used in astrophotography.
Will it hurt.. nope. Will it help.. who knows, but for around $12 a year, I'm not going to sweat it that much.

It would need to make sense and be a logical move. Definitely worth thinking about if you believe rebranding will help boost the profile of the forum or give it a refreshed feel.
Changing of one's forum name isn't something that should be done freely without any good reason otherwise it's going to look like you're even confused at what you really want your forum to be. I'm of to the opinion that one shouldn't change their forum name more than twice. There's nothing to justify changing the name more than twice.

I never changed a forum name, but I also spent ages coming up with the name. That is one of the hardest parts for me because I want it to be so good. I remember us coming up with Atrium, because we wanted it to mean where everyone gathered. The previous forum I was an admin at the first admin created the name and I think I joined on after opening... but I was fine with its message. Prior to that it had been ages since I came up with a forum name lol.
