Buying Premium Mods for Free Software vs Buying Premium Software

I am planning to use CanIDev to pump up my phpBB forum. Is that a good idea? Well, it's got enough mods to make my forum like a simple version of XF (or IPB, WoltLab etc.)

What does this mod include?

Also, is this development stable and ongoing? (Eg. As you pointed out, if it's comparable to giving you a forum that is on par with XF or others, why not just buy XF directly which is all first party)

You know that the responsibility of managing those mods is all on you. So, if you have the technical skills to do it and want to save money, it's not a bad idea in my opinion because it's cost effective.

I think it's worth buying CaniDev's plugins if you choose to stick with phpBB for a while, their reactions mod is amazing and is on par with Facebook's reactions. They don't charge much for their top tier mods, and if you're having money troubles you should continue to use phpBB until you're able to afford a license for a paid script if you want to use one.

I would have to agree. By the time you nickle and dime yourself to death getting various paid mods you are on your way to paying for the paid script.

True! It simply saves you the stress of going back and forth. Once you have the paid script, it's going to allow you more freedom to do things with ease without having to worry about paying for improvements all the time.
