Have you ever found yourself confused on if a post was by a bot, or an actual person? A topic is pretty on topic, but there is an advertisement link, ect.

Has this ever happened to you? If so how did you deal with it? I know some bots are becoming smarter with the forums.

I try to engage with the poster. I might post a profile comment saying "hi". I will also check links: in signatures, profiles and in posts.

Normally it is quite easy to find out if someone is a bot or a person. I do not lose my sleep in figuring out whether it is bot or person; if I see spam, I delete it.

Some bots are tricky! I have come across some bots which seemed like real users and I did not realize until later that they were bots.

You are quite right. Some bots can be quite tricky!

That is why we always will need latest plugins to handle these spam bots.

In my certain niche, there is only one international forum which seems to have been abandoned. It gets like hundreds of spam posts per day. Is there a plugin to get rid of these bots or something or would it be a better idea to restart the whole forum? I mean 100 spam posts a day is crazy!

I have one time had to question whether or not if it was real or legit. I usually do not give them the benefit of the doubt! I delete it.
