"Beta"

I don't get the deal about forums being in beta unless its a custom coded platform.

Yeah, when you're using a custom coded platform or need members to test specific things then it's understandable. But saying your forum is in "Beta" just to get a few members is a pretty lame tactic in my opinion.

For me, if you're saying that you're forum is in Beta, you better have an actual unique difference otherwise I'll be out of your forum quicker than I entered it. People who employ this 'Beta' tactic (And I know of a forum that was in beta for nearly a year, when it all it was was a custom design) are in my opinion, just lame as hell.

If you need to employ silly tactics in order to get people visiting your forum, I'd say that you're doing something wrong.

Wasn't AdminHut in Beta for ages? Might be wrong, but I was apart of BETA for many forums, too be honest it's just a gimmick to try and make early members feel like they've earnt respect and a special sense of "I was here first", most of the time you'll find the 'beta' going on for the majority of the forums life-span, until they inevitably close down.
