Bad experience buying equipment

Hey guys, I was wondering if you ever had a bad experience trying to buy equipment. It can be either with the product or the service.
Maybe it's just my experience but in smaller places, some staff people can be really pompous when you are a newcomer and don't know all the fancy terms or are just looking for a guide.

As for products have you ever bought a piece of equipment or something extra for maintenance, fine-tuning etc that you have regretted?

I don't really regret the Pearls I got. However, I didn't shop around enough.

I once wanted to purchase ukulele and found out that it was not much good in the output. So kind of made me wonder about if it is worth trying out from same shop again.
