It feels like so many sites are going the .io route with their domains. Why is that? Is it just a certain thing people are adopting? Or is there some kind of reason these sites use the .io domains. Do you guys know why?

I really don't think .io is actually taking over because the extension is not even part of the domain extension that is been recognized by search engine for website ranking

Their growing popularity can be traced to two things in my opinion - their relative cheap prices or growing use for scam purposes. Those are the only two ways because I don't see any reason why any domain owner would sell himself short and use such an extension

Dot io domains were popularized by technology related websites and services, mostly by blockchain and crypto currency projects. However, I have never taken interest in this domain.

I have been noticing this domain of recent as well but I don't think it is genuine. I do think most people using this domain use it for scamming.

I can't say they are taking over yet but they seem to be on such a journey, i noticed they are getting widespread among legit and scam websites. Will make some findings to know the cause of this.

The domain name extension is becoming popular. At first I do think that the domain name extension is meant for crypto currency related websites until I saw the full meaning of the extension. One more thing about the domain extension is that it is more expensive than dot com

I wouldn't exactly say taking over, but I can say that a lot of domains are taking the .io address, survey sites or even sites that serve as databases for books and whatnot do use it often.

The .io domains became popular because of its cheap purchase but I haven't really taken it to be genuine because some people majorly use it to exploit.

This something so many are currently using but this doesn't mean that it is taken over because it yet officially place among the top search address

When blockchain based projects started using dot io domains, they became popular. These days when people do not find dot com domain, their second preference is always dot io.

at first the .io domains were cheaper, now I saw that they are $ 45 each. I don't think I would prefer a .io instead of a .com or any other normal extension. :)

I Don't really know much about it, all I know is that .io domain were cheap sometimes back, but now they have reached $47, I would prefer .com than it.

I've recently seen this domain as well, but I don't believe it is legitimate. I believe the majority of people that use this domain are scammers.

One of the reasons why io domains are becoming popular is because being a new domain extension, finding the domain name that you want is relatively easy compared to popular extensions like dot com, or dot net.

I don't think the i.o domains are popular because am not aware of it yet, am yet to see some one using the I.O domain too, is it cheaper than the .com,.to domain?
