Are betas for games even worth it anymore?

Half of the time a game does a beta it's usually close to release. Like they do with the COD franchise, where they release a beta maybe a week or two before the official release date. Everyone knows two weeks before release is not a legit enough time for a beta to play and then get feedback from it. Betas in my opinion should last for a while and be months before release at least. What do you think?
