Question for Community Owners:
Do you run, or have you ever run a newsletter before?
Sometimes, newsletter creators keep the registration form simple to encourage more subscribers. Typically, there is an email field and a submit button. Some might ask for the first name and email and then include the subscribe button.
This is an effective way to get subscribers because you make it simple and fast for people to subscribe.
Why can't we make this possible with an online community? It sounds impossible, but just wait for my ideas here...
The idea for the Forum Software Developer:
Create the initial registration feature to request a username and email address and then include a register button. Some communities might require a Date of Birth Field as well.
Then the platform registers the member.
After that, they get an email to set their password which also confirms their account.
Then make it where the rest of the profile can be filled out in segments using automation or cronjobs.
That way everything doesn't have to happen at once but we can still encourage a full profile.
Gamification could also be a feature to enhance this idea.
But the idea is the first phase of the form registers them and make their account semi-active until they can finish their profile.
