What is your opinion on affiliates?

Do you think they are helpful?

When you visit a forum, do you click on them?

OT is ad-free and I consider affiliate buttons in the footer as an advertisement. So if I put affiliate buttons then I couldn’t really say my forum is ad-free anymore, now could I?

If we did have ads then I suppose I could put affiliate buttons too, what’s another couple ads going to hurt if there’s already ads here in the first place?

I personally like the clean minimal look, that’s why I don’t have the “extended footer” enabled even though it’s included with most of the themes we have installed over there.

We do have a promotion directory forum though, members can post an ad thread there and they can also advertise in their signature (both are more effective than affiliate buttons in my opinion).

I do not have affiliates on my forums but I think these are nice for generating some extra revenue. I always look for opportunities to earn revenue from my forums. making money is my basic criterion. If the forum can earn money, it can also exist for a long time.

Well, it's always a good thing to have affiliates on your forums. It's one of the best ways that anyone can monetize their community. This is something that I have enjoyed seeing how it's worked out on several forum's projects that I have worked on with my partner and I will always be open to making use it all the time.
