@xpl0iter and myself have been looking at PPC advertising options for holderhost. As part of that I decided to look into Adwords CPC rates for hosting terms. I was pretty amazed. I expected $0.5 - $2. Instead:

Web Hosting - $9.21
Best Hosting - $12.19
Cheap Hosting - $13.67
Hosting UK - $16.45
Web Host- $13.20

The cheapest terms I found were:

free hosting - $1.40
Free Web Host- $3.87
Php hosting - $3.87

I can now see why the EIG brands do so well. They have relatively high priced hosting which encourages people to sign up for discounted yearly plans. That, with the "unlimited" marketing would make it profitable. For @xpl0iter and myself, if we paid that per click we'd loose money every time even with 100% Click-Throughs resulting in sign ups.

Thoughts on Adwords? Have you ever used the service?

Adwords is for businesses that have big yearly marketing budgets.

Have you looked into Bing advertising? They might be slightly cheaper. You should also look into 7search because if you can target the right term, then you can your investment back from there pretty quickly (cheap ppc).

We use it regular, about £500-£1,500 a month depending - We have a pretty good ROI, the key is to target long key phrases not just like them above, they are way way way too basic ... also use the display only network, don't accept mobile devices.

More clicks on your adds >> Cheaper clicks

It works trust me, you just have to diversify and think out of the box, do the same with the SEO - I have had clicks cost me £3 and turned into a £20 a month customer, which for the service is a pretty much profit profit situation
