A new project

Hey! Working on a new project with a friend, (well, not really "new" just "re-introduced") and I'd like some feedback on the website. ^.^

It's not anywhere near done content wise, I have some stuff to rework and actually fill in, but design wise it's pretty much there. ^.^

Umm, well, upon accessing the website, I noticed the slow load time, I would guess you're running off a Windows VPS running Apache? Either that or the way MySQL queries and PHP parsing is bad, causing the mass memory usage and thus, resulting in a slow website.

The design is quite alright, although I would suggest using Bootstrap to give the website more of a 'modern' look that has a tone to it, the vertical side navigation bar is quite 'outdated', and really isn't that pleasant, try having an horizontal navigation bar at the top of the website.

Also, I would suggest assigning cookies through PHP, instead of creating them through JS, where they could be vulnerable to modification, and thus, cause you a major security risk/concern.

Nonetheless, I see potential in the website, although it could use more work (I'm here if you require any consulting or answers to any issue you may face). Good luck!

Interesting, was it just the image sliders that were slow for you, or the entire site?

And I'll see about doing a horizontal navigation, the homepage I thought looked better with the sidebar, but I can see how the outdated part comes into play. Thanks!

The entire site, which is why I said it's either the way MySQL queries are being handled that eats up memory which causes a slow website or the way PHP is being parsed.

Also, it was a smart move from your part to call out JS files at the bottom of the page, that helps load the website faster. :smiley:

In the "Work with Us" section, you mentioned a game. If you're site is a game, why is it called DUSA Corporation? You need to make sure you can sell your viewer within 30 second to use your site. For your site, you need to make sure we at least know what your site is.

Yeah, that's all coming. I only got the work with us page done, I haven't started on anything else yet. It's called DUSA Corporation because it's the company behind the games. ^.^

And I'll keep looking into the site speed, it honestly loads pretty quickly for me which is strange if it doesn't load as fast for anyone else. =O

For now though I'll put this back into admin only mode so I can finish working on things. ^.^

Softwares, games, etc. We do not do too much atm as well, I do not program and there is only the two of us and he's the only one programming. xD

Honestly I think we are still in the beginning stages of getting things settled, there is a lot we want to do. xD

First, I love the overall design and animation on the main website. That said, it loads super slow. The logo text stays white on a white background for about 15 or more seconds before the background behind the text (or in front of it) loads which is rather annoying.

Really, that's the only issue I have with it. I'm looking forward to seeing where this project goes for you guys

Definitely doesn't take as long as it did, but it still does it. the white text looks funny on the white background until the rest loads in.

Looking pretty good!

There are a couple things I noticed that I would do a bit differently. Warning: this might get long.

LOGO
So it's a pretty neat logo you've got. I love the idea of simplifying the fonts some for that future/minimal look - the addition of red shapes is great too.

• The triangle shape in the D throws me off. It makes the D look longer than it should and makes the logo look a bit lopsided.
• The kerning(space between each letters) is a bit off - specifically between the D - U - S letters. It'd tighten that up a bit and make it even for each letter. Ideally the same width between the S and A.
  
• I love the slash after the S, however it isnt the same height as the rest of the logo.

HOMEPAGE
Just gotta say, I really like that background you've got.

First thing I'll bring up is the load times. Because its Wordpress & image heavy, I'd compress the images(http://optimizilla.com/ works for me) and perhaps find some optimization plugins/addons for Wordpress if you havent already.

Second thing is the lack of information. All I see is the logo with "INNOVATIONS 4 GENERATIONS" beneath it. If I didnt read the comments of this thread I'd have no clue what DUSA is about, what it does.. etc. The easiest way to remedy this would be to replace the "INNOVATIONS 4 GENERATIONS" with something like "SOFTWARE THAT INNOVATES", "WE'RE SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS, DESIGNERS, GAMERS" etc. Something that actually describes what you do. Also, the "4" isnt doing you guys any favors.

HEADER
Fairly simple header which is good, dont want to clutter it with too much info. I'd like to see the logo a bit smaller here and maybe improve the font of the nav. By inspecting the CSS I see an imported font but Im not seeing that rendered, or at least not well. Looks like size 18px bolded Arial. Check the CSS to make sure the font-weight is set correctly.

FOOTER
Footer looks good! This is a bit nit-picky, but I'd increase the height of the links part of the footer so the top of the footer and the top row of links matches the bottom of the links footer and the bottom row of links.

ABOUT US
Hmm not too keen on that text animation, if performance is still an issue perhaps it would be wise to do without them.

I would remove the second "ABOUT US" and do it more like this:

PROJECTS
I was kind of hoping to see a projects page here, a place to showcase some work, explain your processes etc. However it looks like there is only one project in progress so this is isnt necessary.

THE TEAM
Like ABOUT US, I'd remove the second "MEET OUR TEAM".

If you wanted to save performance, I'd do without those ABOUT drop downs altogether and just put that information on the profile itself. It takes me out of the website completely and adds another button press just to see who you guys are! (Always assume your website visitors are super duper lazy).

The colors of the profiles arent too great on the eyes either. I'd give them a more neutral tone and give them accent colors instead. The entire website kind of goes that route, why should the profiles be any different?

OUR COMMUNITY
I wouldnt change anything - that looks really, really good.

CONTACT US
Whoa, did that background just change? Have the rest of the backgrounds been able to change? Why does this page have a different background?

I also can barely make out the form fields, gotta separate a light grey like that from the white. Give a darker grey border a try and keep the red border on hover, you'll notice it look quite a bit cleaner.

OVERALL
Great website, guys. Really love the simple design, and that mountain background is stellar. Just a couple tweaks with the logo and alignment.

Now I would like a coffee.
