It's always very important for a forum owner's presence to be felt in the community every now and then. But then again, life can happen to anyone which might affect someone's schedule drastically. If you find yourself in a situation where you're most likely going to off from taking part in managing your forum activities for 6 months or more, would you find it easy to leave your forum in care of another person or would you just sell it and start afresh when you come back?

I think that when the forum owner goes on a vacation, they handle over the forum to the administrator of the forum. The forum owner may enjoy vacation and the administrator may consider managing the forum. This may also include handling payments if necessary. However, it entirely depends on the owner.

I have let friends, mods and co-admins run my forum when I am away for an extended period of time before. I think if you have someone who knows what they're doing, it should be fine. There were some forums I ran that I never used, and people didn't know me as the admin.

And there has been times where I just sold my forums or site.

I think everything boils down to being able to trust those who you are about to leave your community into their care whenever you want to go away on an extended vacation because if you don't have a good trust level process on them, you will find it very difficult to be comfortable with leaving your forum in their control.

When I do not have time to manage my community, I would rather consider selling it than handing it over to someone to manage for an extended period of time. By the way, selling your forum can also be very difficult, therefore, you might end up just letting it sit and gather dust.

In the past when I have owned and run forums I always had staff that I knew I could trust to keep things running. I had a time when I had to go into hospital for a few days back in 2014 and then I had to have my gallbladder removed in the same year a few months later.

I was able to leave the forum in their hands for the time I was unable to get on and everything ran smoothly.

If I needed to do it now, I know my other half would be able to take care of things and I would know the forum was in good hands.

You are right about how difficult it is when it comes to selling your forum especially when you are in a rush to do so. You will not exactly be getting the right bid for the forum with how you must have evaluated the price it's supposed to be so sold.

I have been able to sell blogs for really good amounts, but I have not sold a lot of forums (just one forum) and the money I received was not very good. Creating a forum and running a forum takes a substantial amount of time but when it comes to selling it people are not willing to pay even your cost price.

Well, I may authorise a person to handle certain things on the forum. However, there are many things that I may never allow others to do without taking my permission in the first place. This may also include banning members or sending payments. As an owner, you have the final authority to decide this.

This is not actually the context of what I was trying to say. It's like in a situation where you're not going to be around for a long time and you need another to run your forum. They will have to carry out every functions till you're back. Unless you will not want them to ban an account but they can suspend.

It is very important to have staff and capable hands that are going to run your forums when you are unavailable. It is not great to have a forum being inactive because the admin is unavailable. You can trust a staff that will ensure the smooth running of the forum when you are far away from the forum.

It is always going to be in the best interest of your community that you have reliable people that are working within your staff members because they are going to do everything possible to ensure that the management of your forum is always going to be in good shape. This will ensure the sustainability of your community even if you are not around for some time as long as you give them control to manage everything.

If I found out my staff members and administrators in my forum won't manage and take care of my forum when I'm away, I will sell the forum if I'm going to out for too long. If I will be away for more than 3 months, I can't leave the forum in the hands of people who are incapable of taking care of it, I will sell it. When I come back, I will start up another forum.

This is the reason why most webmasters try as much as they can to hire people that they have known to be in administrative duties in other forums. This is because they will have the guarantee that those people know exactly how to do their job very well. It is going to encourage the sustainability of their own community.
