Why is US Dollar World Reserve Currency?

I read somewhere that the United States has remained world's number one economy since 120. Is this the reason why US Dollar is world's reserve currency? What are the exact reasons? Why do international trades happen with US Dollars? Will some other currency be able to topple US Dollars as world's reserve currency?
