When did forum signatures change?

I swear forum signatures used to be better in terms of SEO because all the backlinks you built didn't change after editing your signature... When did this all change?

At least it helps prevent forum spam....

Well if I edit my signature now, all my past posts will have the new signature. But I swear that never used to happen, the signature for that post was the signature you had. I think that's how it was on digitalpoint, or maybe it was only on 1 forum I visited or something

Oh yeah, I remember that.
Nowadays in some forums there is an option for not changing the signatures for all the old posts. I think its the new forum softwares which does not allow this!
Anyway, this is not a good move in terms of SEO.
All those SEO work is gone, if we change the signature!

Thank God it wasn't just me! I was starting to think I must have been seeing things I suppose it's better for the forum though- less out-bound links... It also means you have to watch out when buying a site with lots of forum signature backlinks!
