I mean the clear obvious one is Notepad++, but other than that I am clueless. What do you folks use for coding?

I've been using Notepad++ for a long time. In fact, I probably use Notepad++ more than any other text editor. I've tried a variety of different editors

I deal with a lot of huge source code library files. I also spend a lot of time in and out of my code editor during the day.

These are some alternatives to Notepad++
  • Visual Studio Code
  • Sublime Text
  • UltraEdit
  • Brackets
  • TextPad
  • TextEdit

I think that it all depends on the language tht you are using because if you are coding in python then i think that you will need anaconda as well.

Free alternatives or are those alternatives with a fee? Just asking for a friend ;)
But yeah if they aren't free it's no point in getting them as a starter.
