What kind of back-linking works best in 2023?

I know back-linking is a time tested avenue people take to build up traffic and it still works today but there are all sorts of approaches to this.

When it comes to building up your traffic, which kind of back-linking, or rather which method - works best?

I feel like backlinks don't work as much as they used to. You can try to build them up, but I feel like they aren't as useful as they used to be. If anything I think it can kinda be a waste of time. But I hear it still works to some extent, just could be better.

Content is definitely king and much of your budget should go to it, regardless of whether you use SEO or not. Anyway, as sort of noted, you can't game the system these days. Is this good or bad? I'd say good cause gaming can be a rip-off (for users).
