Blog commenting is one of those thing which can easily backfire imo. The worst practises can simply get you a search engine ban. So what do you think as the worst practise?

I think commenting blogs with the same content over and over again is the worst practise! If you're lazy to do the work, don't do it!

I've decided that mass blog comment links aren't worth it at all. They do NOT help your search ranking in any way, shape or form!

I seriously hate it when people just comment on your blog posts for the sake of advertising, without even properly reading the content and just going like "This was really useful information. Thank you for sharing this. LINK TO SITE HERE."

That's why I put up a comment approval system for my site's news posts. I never let comments with site links that I know are meant for advertising through.

I've had comments saying that they liked the site but the content is rife with spelling mistakes! It isn't rife with spelling mistakes at all, so why would someone want to say that and do they really expect that I'll give them a link for it?

This was really useful information. Thank you for sharing this. LINK TO SITE HERE."

I get lots of these too, and delete them all. The stupid thing is that I'd really love some half decent comments. A little thought would easily get someone a link.

The short comments that are left purely for a quick back link. You know the ones, "Great post", "Thanks for sharing". All these people have to do is spend a few minutes coming up with a genuine contribution and the comment would be approved.
