A regional manager is a person who manages a particular region. This means that a company may be conducting businesses in many different regions in a country. They have to manage the branches of each region. So, what are the duties of a regional manager and how do they differ from area managers?

I get confused easily whenever they start talking about regional manager and area manager but when I calm down to look into their differences, it's clear a regional manager have several area members working under his jurisdiction. An area manager cover a particular zone in company's business while the regional manager oversees what all the area managers are doing.

The responsibilities of the regional manager vary according to the company policy. I have a cousin who works as a regional manager in a pharmaceutical company and he is responsible for looking after sales and marketing. I know another guy working as a regional manger and he only looks after the performances of staff working under him.

Exactly! The work description of any employee in any company is always going to be determined by what the company wants the person to do. It doesn't necessarily mean that a regional manager in company A is going to be doing exactly what the regional manager in company B is doing. So, everything is all about what the company have in their own worker's job description.
