A forum administrator is a person who has a huge responsibility over their shoulders. They may be people who may have experience when it comes to handling forum issues. So, what are some major responsibilities of a forum administrator?

There could be a lot of responsibilities for an administrator depending on the type of board you run and how active it is, but in any case here are some of them I consider worth mentioning:
  • Dealing with conflict between staff and members.
  • Site maintenance and Admin CP management.
  • Banning users who deserve it.
  • Enforcement of the rules.
  • Being active around your community is always a plus!
There could be a lot more, of course, but those are the first ones that come to mind. Some of those can be handled by moderators too, but the administrator should often have the final say when it comes to breaking the rules, I think.

If the forum administrator is different from the forum owner, his job will be almost the same as that of the owner. He will be handling everything for the owner with his approval. He manages all the admin duties in the forum like site maintenance, installation of plugins, overseeing mod work, settlings staffs and members disputes.

The forum administrator can be the owner of a forum or someone who has been hired by the owner to look after the forum. The duties and responsibilities of a forum administrator can be as simple as looking after day to day operations or as complicated as writing codes or handling all technical jobs. If the forum is big, an admin might have to do a lot of things on the forum.

There are different types of administrators. I would always keep one owner as administrator in charge and one technical administrator. When it comes to complete control of the forum, you get supermoderators who manage over moderators. Supermoderator would be as close to administrator but without access to administrative panel. I see that as the best hierarchy for forum.

Having two admins where their jobs overlap is not good. Supermoderators are for such things.

Forum administrators manage user interactions, enforce community guidelines, resolve conflicts, ensure content quality, and maintain technical aspects. They ensure to promote positive online environment, safeguarding user experience, and addressing issues as soon as possible to sustain a growing forum community.

Some major responsibilities of a forum administrator include moderating user-generated content, enforcing community guidelines, resolving conflicts between users, ensuring the security of the forum, monitoring and managing user accounts, and promoting a positive and engaging environment for members.
