Well, advice should be given before someone starts a business. This is very important before you make any kind of investments. Having said that, in case if you have already started your business, then you must find the right sort of customer who might be interested in purchasing products from you. You must focus on your products and market your product to people who want to buy them. This is what you call audience-targeting. You have to market your product to the right sort of customers who need your product.

That's what I would tell someone who is starting a business for the first time.
Today business can succeed only when it is well marketed. When you market, you can reach your potential customers and thus be able to generate sales

I believe that marketing should be done even before you start your business. Indeed, there are many companies that market their business even before they launch their business. This helps them in many different ways and this also creates a place in the minds of people at a subconscious level.
 
That's called marketing. marketing is basically geared towards generating sales. You market products and services to improve sales. Branding is all about making your business well known and branding is not in any way related to sales, it is just about making your business popular.

I think that conducting marketing before you launch your business would already prepare many customers for you. This is one of the most important things because you may need customers from day one when you start your business. Unfortunately, many people never realise this.
