Something I tend to notice as I frequently post on forums both pay-to-post forums and forums that I do not make any money on is how some people tend to treat threads on forums as chat rooms or even messaging services and reply with really small text that would be more suited for a chat or message.

What are your thoughts on replies like this on a forum? Is it something you do not mind seeing and how do you feel it helps forums or does not help forums?

I have seen a lot of members posting one-liners, I do not have any thing to say to these members if they are not being paid as if they have made poost that is relevant to the discussion. However, I do believe if you ar ebeing compensated, you shopuld put some effort. But then there is also a question of how long your posts should be. I believe forum is not an article site and there is no need to write hundreds of words, it is a discussion platform so 50-60 words should be enough for a post.

Whether you are writing for some compensation or not, you should understand that making quality contents on a forum matter. Yes, there are some forums owners that won't see any big deal with it, but I can't deal with a member always dropping short comments on my forum because they just want to feel among.

Why do people post on forums? It is either out of passion or because they are being compensated. If they are not being compensated a forum owner cannot ask them to make long posts as long as the members posts are informative. Length does not matter as long as the comment adds value. It is not good to expect long posts form users if you are not compensating them. You need to give them freedom.

This I can agree with 100%. Those who tend to come in and make small replies without any context usually do it out of quickness and not to help the forum.

As you say, some forum owners do not see an issue with it but for those who are serious about their forum, most will want high-quality forum posts or forum posts that are of a certain length and have context.

Most of the time short replies are genuine, and long replies are AI-generated. These days even when they know the topic a lot of people do not want to take the pain of writing their own posts, they use AI to create posts. Oneliners are better than long AI-generated content.

I think it depends on the forum and the rules of said forum. Some forums are more relaxed and allow low text posts, but if it's a paid posting service, you should put more effort into the posts, ask questions, and just try to promote conversation.

Now, when it's people who just respond with one word responses, yeah that's spam.

Usually people set up chat rooms on their forums, so users don't spam forums as if they are chat rooms.

Short replies work only in some cases. You simply cannot express yourselves enough and add some info when the word count is less. But be careful not to be extravagant with words as well. Because people got very little time to read essays.

My question is going to be how short are the relies? Are they just one word replies or a small sentence? When it's a one word reply, I don't accept it at all for any reason whatsoever. I don't want to know the reason why they felt a one word reply is all that's needed. If they can't add some effort in their replies, they better not reply at all.

I can't say that those that let members post short replies are not serious with their forums. I believe that they are just not bothered about how long the posts or threads are since they are just looking for members to be active and nothing more attached to it.

Exactly! There's no way it's going to be possible for you to fully express your points with a very short reply. These people are just too lazy when it comes to making any posts on forums. It's not like the post they are going to make will be very difficult. They are just not eager to make any good contribution.

I think detailed and thoughtful responses are more valuable for creating meaningful discussions on forums. Besides that, some forums have rules against low-quality or short posts, and posting very short replies can result in warnings or bans.

It's those careless short replies that doesn't add any value to any discussion in a forum. I have seen a forum where the owner doesn't care about what's replied by the members. They even go to the extent of paying for those posts. SCF is an example of such forum!

It depends on the forum. On a forum populated by 8-12 year old children, posting small replies is acceptable, par for the discussion, and cute. A forum about lighter subjects such as toys or entertainment may also have room for impactful one-liners.

By contrast, on a serious forum about serious adult subjects that is meant to be helpful information repository, posting replies of a significant length and quality is expected, and there's less room for jokes and zingers.

There are some discussions that needs a reply in average length because it's the only way you can add anything meaningful in the discussion. A reply of one line or just two or three words wouldn't add any meaningful to the subject being discussed.

In my opinion, if it's paid post which the member of your forum is making, shorter posts will never be acceptable. A one or two line posts can never be accepted to be what's made for paid posting. If it's a random member who decided to contribute to your forum, he can make short posts as long as it makes sense.

I would simply say that those kind of website owners are only interested in the traffic that they are generating from their members who are posting short contents. They are simply not bothered about the content quality but just the activity that they are having in their community.
